What is SOAR
What is SOAR?
SOAR is our way of saying Academies of Inquiry and Talent Development
In SOAR, our students are not divided by grade level or ability, but by common interests. During the week, these SOAR groups meet to engage in real-world problems. Through research and collaborative effort, these groups create products or services for a real audience. Examples of academies are "Grey's Anatomy," "Architecture," and "Dramatic Presentations." (Even this website is improved and maintained by the "Website Design" Academy.)
These academies conclude with "Night at the Museum" in which students display their products and/or services. Parents and students, faculty and staff, and members of the community are invited to this celebration of our students' work.
As the year progresses, we will add information on the academies. So come back again!
What is PUSH
What is PUSH?
Every student at Chestatee will be a member of a SOAR Academy. The academies meet on Tuesday's and Fridays.
We will have PUSH on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. PUSH sessions last 25 minutes. Some students will report to their SOAR teacher during this period for reading. In years past, we found that having this type of reading session every day turned many of our students into passionate readers.
Other students will report to a different, "PUSH" teacher. These PUSH classes will give students extra help in either math or reading. We have ongoing tests that help us to determine which students will benefit from these classes. These tests tell us the specific areas where these students need help.
Based on our experience in previous years, this extra help can make an enormous difference in catching students up.
We Need Help!
We need help!
We have a lot of academies covering a huge range of topics. We rely on parents and the community to help with materials and expertise.
We will use this page to post our needs. Hopefully you (or someone you know) can help.
So check back often.
